LED Display is short for Light-Emitting Diode Display, using a panel of light-emitting diodes (LED) to generate light and display information. A LED display can be seen on digital numbers on elevators, traffic lights, shop signs, billboards outside, and so on.There are three types of LED Displays, including LED Digit Display, Dot Matrix Display, and SMD Display.
LED Digit Displays are displays with LEDs enclosed in a component, and the LEDs can be lit individually to show alphabets and numbers. For instance, a 16 segment display can show both uppercase and lowercase English letters.

Dot Matrix Displays are arrayed by different LED light sources in oblong shapes, and the light can be generated to show the numbers on clocks or operation status on machines.

Last, SMD Displays are displays with LEDs mounted on the PCB by the manner of SMT. SMD LED displays are known for their lighter and thinner volume compared to traditional digital displays.

A LED display is composed of a lot of closely-spaced LEDs. LED is a semiconductor device producing light. The illumination is emitted when the electrons carry the current passing through LED.
Red, green and blue LEDs are mounted in a fixed pattern on a LED display. When looking at the LED screen from a certain distance, the array of colored pixels are seen as an image or word. By adjusting the intensity and arrangement of the diodes, diverse colors of beams and images can be formed. Therefore,the information a LED display offers can be totally different by simply changing the brightness of each LED on the display.
The most fundamental colors that a LED display can emit are the three primary colors: red, green and blue. All visible colors are the combination of lights of these three colors. By changing the colors and varying the brightness, various colors can be emitted. Take the color “white” for example. Once mixing all the primary colors, white lights can be produced.
Red, orange, yellow, and green are basic emitted colors of LED displays’ chips. According to different applications, the emitted colors are also available to be adjusted and customized.
One of the important features of LEDs is that the performance is better than other light sources with no doubts. A LED display can illuminate with higher energy efficiency.
The other feature of a LED Display is that LEDs generally don't produce heat in the form of infrared (IR) radiation. When turning on the LEDs, a LED display emits almost zero heat. Because of not producing heat, a LED display is cool to touch when it is illuminated. Also, a LED display reduces the possible problem of cooling the electronic parts.
Besides, durability is also a feature of LED displays. The common standard for LED lifespan is about 100,000 hours or 10 years. Although weather and power might also influence the useful life, a LED display is still considered to be durable.
A LED display can display diverse information. In addition to showing visual images or graphs, a LED display is capable of generating general illumination, as when used for stage lighting or decorative purposes. Therefore, an LED display is widely used in many situations and uses, including showing promotion, advertising, and sports scores.
For example, LED displays may be often used in different industries, especially in commercial and retail companies, or in house and consumer electronics. Many electronics in our daily lives like digital clocks, timers, microwaves, and LED video walls are made by LED displays, making LED displays highly versatile electronic components.
On the other hand, LED displays are also widely used in roads. Destination signs on public transportation and variable-message signs on freeways all consist of LED displays to indicate direction.
