The internal structure of the seven-segment display and the sixteen-segment display are revealed!

Application

7-segment display and 16-segment display are widely used in electrical appliances, especially in home appliances, such as refrigerators, water heaters, air conditioners, etc. Even in industrial equipment, they are used to display numerical values, so most of them will be seen on digital equipment.

Name

The naming method is based on how many light-emitting areas there are in a single element. The light-emitting areas can also be called segments or sections.

Taking (Figure 1) as an example, a component is divided into several light-emitting areas, each area is an independent illuminator, named by the number of light-emitting areas, so a seven-segment display represents seven light-emitting areas; a sixteen-segment display (Picture 2) is also named in the same way, and most monitors will also attach a circular point usually called DP (Decimal Point).

Because of the arrangement and combination of the light-emitting areas, numbers and decimal points from 0 to 9 can be generated, and English alphabet can also be displayed.

Structure

Each light-emitting area has at least one LED in it, and then the internal segments are named A-G segments in a clockwise manner, and the DP point (Decimal Point) in the lower right corner. A seven-segment display requires at least eight light-emitting diodes, Only the body LED can fully display the numbers. According to the structure, the seven-segment display can be divided into common anode and common cathode. It is a common cathode seven-segment display, usually different circuit connections will be represented by different product models.
